Internet Marketing Statistics: check them

When you’re promoting your business online, it’s important that you carefully watch your internet marketing statistics. While marketing statistics can often refer more to industry statistics than your own personal marketing results, you’re going to be most concerned with the statistics that apply only to you and your business for right now.

Your internet marketing statistics include everything from the number of pages views for each page of your website, to how many clicks a particular link in an email or advertisement bring you a new customer, to how many of those click-throughs actually purchase something or sign up for your mailing list so you can contact them later.

These statistics are vitally important, because they tell you if your plan is working or not. For instance, if your internet marketing statistics show that an advertisement you placed in a newsletter drew very few people to your site, and few if any of those signed up for your mailing list or purchased anything, you’ll want to reconsider paying for advertising there again. It could be that your ad was ineffective, and it could be that it’s just not a profitable place for you to advertise. Try an ad there similar to one you’ve used somewhere else with good results, and see if the same thing happens. If it does, then the market is probably just not right for your product or service. If the new ad gets a good response, then you’ll know it’s the first ad itself that didn’t do well, not the market.

If you don’t keep a good eye on your internet marketing statistics, then everything becomes guesswork. Since you’re operating a business and not running a psychic phone line, the guesswork isn’t a wise way to run an internet marketing campaign. Are you getting tons of website hits from a particular link, but few are following through and signing up for a list or buying? It’s still possible that it’s just simply not the market for you, or it could be you don’t have very compelling content on your page designed to make people want to sign up for your list.

You’ve probably had your website search engine optimized for certain keywords pertaining to your business. Type them in to a few different search engines and see if your site is in the top 10 or so listings. If it’s not on the front page of listings, most searchers won’t see it at all because so few ever click as far as the second page of results, unless necessary. Page rank is one of the more important internet marketing statistics you can monitor, right along with link performance.

Another way to make your statistics work for you is by looking at page views referred from within your site. The customer is there, and begins looking at different pages. Which ones get the most hits that way? This is one of the internet marketing statistics that can help you see what searchers like the most about your website.

Can you believe articles on Internet marketing?

A quick online search reveals what seems like thousands of articles on internet marketing. You have to wonder if all those people who claim to be experts offering their knowledge in these articles really have any idea what they’re talking about. How do you determine which articles contain good, valid information and which are written by wannabees who are just repeating what they’ve read everywhere else, and may be hoping to make a sale in one of their affiliate programs?

The first thing you can do is search for other articles and information by the author. That, probably above all other ways, is the best way to judge the quality of information you’ll likely find in their articles on internet marketing. If every article or bit of info you find hawks some different way to strike it rich online, then maybe they’re not the best source for information. If all of the information they offer, however, follows along the same lines, with one article just building on the information they offer in another, they show some promise.

It’s important to remember that all articles on internet marketing won’t focus on generic ways to market money-making programs. Internet marketing is something anyone with anything to sell online can benefit from, whether they have an online rare stamp store, or they sell foot massagers. But there seems to be a great wealth of “experts” telling you how to start a business just like theirs—selling information about how to get rich online—if only you’ll buy their system. Consider whether they’ve made their money using principles of marketing, or whether they make their money by selling other people a “how to make money” kit.

Another important judge of whether articles on internet marketing really contain useful information is the point of the articles. Most good internet marketers are going to have a link in that article leading you to more of their information, and eventually you’ll find the sales pitch. This is just the author using good marketing principles by giving you information and enticing you to buy his product. This alone should not put you off. But if the article really doesn’t contain anything but explanations about how badly you need to buy their product, then it’s just a disguised sales pitch, not really an article.

When you’re looking for information, read as many articles on internet marketing as you can find, and you’ll soon be able to spot the difference between someone with real information to offer (both freely in the article, and for sale) and those who’ve slapped up an affiliate sales page or a sales pitch. Usually, even the poorly done articles can benefit you in this way; by showing you what to avoid.

You’ll tend to find the same information presented in different ways by different authors. This just shows that they’re good ideas. If you see certain authors’ names frequently, that’s good. It shows they’re successfully using what they write about in their articles on internet marketing.

Affiliate Marketing: tips to get started

Are you one of the thousands of people looking for a way to supplement your income or in fact replace the income you lost when you were laid off? Thanks to the advances in technology and the World Wide Web you can begin to create income in a very short period of time. But you must be willing to work at it. If you are prepared to do just that; work that is, this article will give you some tips for to get a head start on affiliate marketing Internet style.

Affiliate Marketing Background

Just so you know affiliate sales have been around for centuries and centuries. However, back then the guy who created the product or bought the product wholesale, contracted with the guy who owned a backpack, tent or horse and buggy to go around the countryside selling the product. Once it was sold the owner of the product and the guy who he contracted with settled up. The owner then paid the contractor a percentage of the profits from the sale. In other words the contractor was a commissioned salesman. Shocker! Yep affiliate marketing is commissioned sales.

Don’t worry it’s not as bad as it sounds. Let me introduce you to Ken. Ken was 9 years old when he first became a commissioned salesman (sorry ladies but that’s what it was called back then). Ken saw an ad in a comic book that needed someone to sale Christmas Cards on a percentage basis. Back then it didn’t cost any money for him to sign up. He signed up and the company sent him a top notch demonstration folder of Christmas cards.

To make a long story short Ken sold Christmas cards from August through the end of November and he made $250.00, which was unheard of for a 9 year old in the 1950′s. By the way that kid named Ken is me. But I didn’t tell you this story to brag, I wanted to make a point about commissioned sales (affiliate marketing). If a 9 year old kid can learn how to do it; then you can. Now let’s move on to the Tips about affiliate marketing.

What kind of money can be made by an affiliate marketer internet style?

Tip 1: In order to put the maximum amount of money you can into your pocket it is important to choose a top notch product; just like I did when I was 9 years old.

If you’re just starting out it’s very easy to determine what’s good and not so good, by using the internet. Simply go to your favorite search engine, type in the name of the product (e.g. “Hood TV reviews”) and bam usually you will have more reviews than you can shake a stick at. You can use this technique to check out any affiliate product.

Tip 2: Going along with Tip 1 you can also check out the actual affiliate program you want to promote. Use the Search Engines and type in (e.g. “Ken’s Baloney Affiliate Program review/reviews”) and you can find out if Ken is a good payer of his commissions or if people say he is a scoundrel and a cheat.

Tip 3: Perhaps the most important tip I can give you from my perspective is don’t pay to join an affiliate program. There are way too many top notch affiliate programs it doesn’t cost a dime to join.

Tip 4: You can check out places such as clickbank.com, associateprograms.com, paydotcom.com, commissionjunction.com and many others to find good programs to make affiliate money in.

Affiliate Marketing Internet style is not difficult to do. But like anything else that is worthwhile you must be willing to work at it. One last tip for you, the better programs will provide you with the necessary tools for you to promote and not charge you a thing for the advertising tools. You can’t any better than that.
