Got a WordPress blog? If you have, check out the WordPress plugin, Post Ideas+.

As the plugin’s name suggests, it helps you to track blog post ideas. If you’re anything like me, you get ideas all the time, and write them down on any handy piece of paper, or in your To Do List. This is great, but if you have many blogs, you lose track of just where you noted your ideas for a particular blog.

Now you can keep your ideas FOR a blog, ON that blog. When you’re ready to work with a blog, log in to the dashboard, and look up your ideas.

Here’s what Post Ideas+ looks like on your WordPress dashboard.

I enjoy this plugin, but as Jonathan Bailey warns, there are a couple of problems you should be aware of:

For one, though the plugin pre-populates the title of the post when you write a post idea, it doesn’t seem to carry over the other information. The tags are not put in as tags, and the other elements, including the links and description, disappear. This can be very frustrating if you forget to open the links you were saving before hitting the “Write” link.

I’m avoiding hassles just by saving the idea, then when I’m ready to write it, I hit Edit, and copy the data, then I write the post in my desktop editor, MarsEdit. Yes, it’s a workaround, but at least you’ve captured the idea at the moment inspiration strikes.

If you’re using WordPress to create your Mini Site Formula sites, you’ll love this plugin. It can be a real challenge to keep up with all your sites — but as you know, it’s worth it. :-)

I’ve been blogging for a decade, and in my blogging training, I encourage bloggers to focus on content first. Create your first couple of blogs on a free platform. It’s content which gets you found in the search engines, and starts you making money from your blog.

Once you’re comfortable with creating content regularly, you can switch to WordPress, or another blogging application for pro bloggers.

But which free blogging platform should you use?

Either Blogger, or Posterous, are excellent if you’re new to blogging. You can set up a Blogger blog in less than one minute. Posterous is even easier to set up: just send an email message, and you’ve created a blog.

Remember that content always comes first. It’s much more important than the platform you use.

Once you’ve established your blog, and are making money with it, you can always set up a WordPress site, and can then import your free blog’s content if you wish.

Best-ever WordPress theme for affiliate marketers, and professional bloggers

Looking for the best WordPress theme (which comes with its own squeeze page template)? FlexSqueeze makes setting up WordPress in any niche amazingly easy. I love it, and I’ve already deployed it on several sites. (I’ll be converting all my sites to this theme — it has everything you need.)

This theme just works, and if you’re an experienced blogger, you know how truly rare that is.

The social media sites like Twitter and Facebook can help you to get traffic to your blog. If you don’t have much money to spend on promotion, these sites can provide you with traffic, for free.

Let’s look at the top five ways to get traffic from the social media sites.

1. Blog Often: More Content and More Followers Mean More Traffic

You’ll be encouraging your followers to visit your blog, therefore it’s essential that you have content for them to read.

One of the big challenges is that it’s hard to get this kind of traffic to convert. Visitors stay for seconds, and leave. Therefore, your aim should be to convert as many visitors as possible so that they become regular readers.

If your blog is new, that is under a year old, you should be spending more time blogging and adding content, than interacting on the social media sites. The more content you have, the more chances you’ll have to win regular readers.

2. Make the News With a Press Release

Many of the commercial press release services include social media options. Investing in several news releases over three months is a great investment in search engine rankings, and blog traffic.

3. Set Goals, and Create a Plan

Do you have goals for your blog? Many new bloggers don’t. I encourage you to create some goals. The five minutes you invest now ensure that your blog will continue to grow, and will deliver the results you want.

You may have several goals, but focus on one goal at a time, and create a blog in plan for each goal.

4. Make It Easy for Followers to Subscribe via RSS

Make the most of your blog’s RSS feed.

Encourage your blog’s visitors to subscribe via a newsreader. Your aim should be not merely to get traffic, but to increase your subscribers. A great way to do this is to offer an incentive for subscriptions.

Many autoresponder applications can integrate with your RSS feed, so that each time you make a post, it’s sent to your subscribers via email.

5. Ask Questions, and Get Ideas for Your Blog

The social media sites are all about interaction. Ask questions of others, and answer the questions that others have posted. Then create blog posts about these questions and your responses.

You can also mine your Twitter stream for blog content ideas: when you blog about what’s being discussed, you’ll get more traffic.
