Information products sell, right? You already know this, if you’ve been in Internet marketing for more than ten minutes. So you need your own product, because it means that you have on-going sales, day after day and week after week.

All well and good, you’re thinking… but you don’t have a product.

Yes, you do. You’ve got lots of material which you could convert into an ebook or other info product within 24 or 48 hours, no sweat.

The Fastest-Ever Way to Create an Information Product

It’s simple: use what you’ve already created — just repurpose all that stuff you have lying around on your hard drive, and on the web.

You can repurpose the following kinds of content into an ebook, or other information product:

* Convert an ebook you’ve written into a video course (or you can just convert a PLR ebook, for that matter);

* Convert your blog content into any kind of information product — ebook, video or audio course, membership site. It’s your blog, you can do what you like with your own material;

* Convert forum posts into an ebook. I hope you save your forum posts. :-) I admit that I didn’t, until a couple of years ago. Now I save every post I make, because they’re my words, and often spark ideas (and content) for a product somewhere down the road (please note you can’t use others’ posts);

* Convert email messages into an ebook. We all get questions. Save the responses you give — they can lead to an entire product. If one person asks you something, 50 others may be wondering the same thing (you can only use what you wrote, not what others wrote to you. If you want to use others’ words, get written permission);

* Convert your best articles into an ebook, or other info product. I have literally thousands of articles I’ve written over the years. I’m sure you have articles too. Many of your articles make the ideal jumping-off place for an info product. Bulk the product out with your own forum posts, your responses to email messages, and some PLR content, and you’re done.

Super-big, IMPORTANT warning: use your own stuff, no-one else’s

If you’re experienced online, you know this already.

If you’re inexperienced, please remember that the only material you can re-use and repurpose is material to which you have the copyright. Your own blog posts, your own email messages (NOT what others wrote to you), and your own forum posts (no-one else’s).

Go ahead — convert the stuff you already have into a product.

One point: a blogging friend to whom I suggested that he repurpose his blog posts said: “They’ve read it already!” He maintained that his readers wouldn’t pay for the same old, same old.

Here’s my response:

Hard as it may be to believe, 99.999 per cent of your readers will never read all your posts. You should be so lucky. :-) And the one reader in 100,000 who actually ploughs through it all will appreciate having it all in one easily-accessible format.

You’ll find too, that when you repurpose content, you add, delete, and revise, because you’ve gained experience since you wrote the material, and you have more to say.

So get to it — start creating your FAST ebook today. :-)

Testimonials and how to get them

You’ve created an information product, and you’re raring to go. You (or your copywriter) wrote the sales page, but there’s a stumbling block… testimonials.

In short, you need them, but how do you get them?

Testimonials have been around a long time in the offline world, and having testimonials on your online sales page or website is no different. People are giving their endorsement of your product, and this goes a long way as social proof. Potential buyers may be on the fence about buying your product but when they see positive comments from others who have tried and benefited from the product, they see it as proof that it works.

Getting testimonials may not take much effort on your part if you’re a well-known marketer who has a trusting relationship with your list, but it takes a little more work if you’re untried and unknown.

Here’s what you can do to get testimonials:

Offer your product free on a forum you frequent in exchange for honest comments, and a testimonial if they liked it. Some may see this as bribery, but really you are asking them for honest feedback. Sometimes they give constructive criticism that you can use to improve your product before you release it for sale to the public. Put a limit on the number you’ll give away for free to get comments or you’ll get bombarded with too many requests.

If you see a request from someone else to try their product and leave them a testimonial, do it. When you’re done reviewing it and offering a sincere (not over the top and gushy) testimonial, you can ask them to do the same for you.

Think about calling in some favors. Have you helped out a fellow marketer in the past by proofing his copy, leaving lots of comments on his blog, or retweeting all his promotions? Ask for the testimonial. Email him a request and don’t forget to add the link for his complimentary copy. And who knows, he might like it enough to want to become an affiliate.

Go to your list. Explain that you will give out your new product for free to the first 5 or 7 people if they promise to give you a testimonial/feedback in 48 hours. Not only do you get testimonials but this works to create some buzz around your product.

This is a bit after the fact, but you can always put a request for feedback or positive comments in a READ ME file in the zip folder that goes out to everyone who buys your product. Grab the first couple positive responses and quickly put them up on your sales page.

Give a time limit on all your requests to keep people focused. Send them reminders when the time is up and many of them will drop everything to comply. But keep in mind there are some people who will take the product and run without so much as a thank you or testimonial, so ask for more of them than you think you’ll need.

Testimonials are a very important way to help convince potential buyers to purchase your product. They are the social proof you need on your sales page so take some time gathering them, preferably before your product goes live.

Product creation: three easy ways

There are different ways you can go to create an online income. Many choose the affiliate route and sell other people’s products for a cut of the proceeds. Still others find success with creating and selling their own products. Creating a product can be a lot of work, especially if writing is not one of your strong suits, and creating a product can take a fair chunk of your time. But there are ways around both these problems and I’ll explain 3 easy ways to have a product ready to promote in no time.

Interview experts in your niche

This is not hard to do and several in-depth interviews can make for a really great product. It does require a little work in trying to find the experts and pin them down to a time when you can do the audio interview. You also need to come up with some really good questions.

Be aware of the experts’ time and don’t go on and on. The more people you have to interview, the longer it takes to put it all together. Generally, the fewer the interviews, the smaller the product and the faster it will get done.

Turn PLR into a product

You can do this by starting with PLR article bundles, adding value, and turning them into an ebook or report. Add value by adding to the articles with further explanations, examples, and personal stories. Include photos from stockphotos.com or Flickr.com, plus any graphics to make the report or ebook look more professional. Turn the whole thing into a PDF and it’s ready to go out the door.

You can also take a product that you have PLR to and do the same thing. Change the name, add lots of value, take it to the next level. I suggest you get new graphics done for the header and the ebook cover. The time you spend making it original is worth it, and it certainly takes less time to do this than to create a product from scratch.

Put together articles from an article directory

Find several articles that complement each other in the same niche that would make a great report when put together. Contact the authors and ask permission for what you want to do. They should be happy to give you permission as it’s extra exposure for them. You can either agree to leave their bio after their article or put all the bios at the end of the report on a resources page. Put these articles together while adding a paragraph at the end of each to make it flow smoothly (segue) into the next.

Try one of these easy ideas for creating a product and I think you’ll find it’s not as hard or as lengthy a process as you imagined it would be. Now you’re a product creator and with your new-found confidence you should be able to produce products quickly on demand.
