Every so often, I get questions about article spinners. Many of these applications are available. Some you download to your computer, others are used as web apps.

Essentially these apps work by turning one article you’ve written into many articles, in various ways.

Do they work?

A disclaimer up front: I don’t use article spinners. I tried one web-based spinner a few years ago, and didn’t like it. As far as I could tell, it did no harm, but there were no visible benefits FOR ME in using it either.

Before you consider buying such an app, ask yourself a couple of questions: “What are my online goals? How will a spinner help me to achieve them?”

Write down the answers. If you wrote something like: “I want to make as much money as fast as possible” for example, then describe how the spinner will help you to achieve that.

I’m neither for article spinners, nor against them. Just be clear in your own mind how, when, where and why you’ll use such an application. Otherwise, you’re just wasting money, and time.

Remember that your articles will stay online for years, and will keep selling for you for years, but only if they stay in the search engines’ indices. If people click away from your articles instantly, your articles will be be dumped, and won’t be visible to searchers.

This is why it’s a mistake to focus solely on quick clicks.

Article views matter little: what matters is the response. It’s much better to get fewer article views and more sales rather than many article views and no sales at all.

Therefore, make your articles credible and valuable. Every article you write could still be selling for you five years from now — if you put little effort into them.

3. Plan and Execute: Schedule Your Promotions

Article marketing is becoming more competitive. It’s always been popular, but as more businesses become aware of the value of article marketing, there’s more competition for article views.

This means that you need to write more articles to get results this year than you needed to write last year, and you’ll need to write even more articles next year to get the same results.

Therefore, you need to create plans and execute them. Once you’ve executed a plan, review it, to see what the results were.

You need to be completely ethical, because you’re building a long-term career.

3. Use the Social Networking Sites to Make Contacts

As a beginning writer, you won’t have any contacts. Luckily making contacts is very easy because of the growth of the social networking sites. Many writers use sites like Twitter to advertise their availability, and to get clients.

These sites are very useful because they enable you to stay in touch with people with whom you’ve worked, and it’s essential that you do this. It’s always easier to get work from people who know you then from complete strangers.
